Checkable, not claimed

Standards We Build To

The product standards, the design codes, and the certificates we hold.

Product standards matter because they turn a claim into something a buyer can check. These are the standards our products are built and rated to, and what each one actually governs.

Product standards

StandardApplies toWhat it governs
ISO 10380Corrugated metal hose and hose assembliesConstruction, dimensions, pressure rating, cycle-life classification and the test methods behind them. The international reference for our braided corrugated range.
ISO 15465Strip-wound (interlock) metal hoseConstruction and classification of strip-wound hose. The counterpart standard for our interlock range.
BS 6501 Part 1Corrugated metal hose assembliesThe British specification for corrugated hose assemblies, still called for on many project specifications.
EN 14917:2021Metal bellows expansion joints for pressure applicationsDesign, manufacture, testing and marking of expansion joints. Our bellows are designed to this edition.
EJMA, 11th EditionExpansion jointsThe Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association standards — movement, stress and fatigue methodology.

Design and system codes

CodeWhere it applies
EN 13445Unfired pressure vessels, where the component falls within that scope
EN 13480Metallic industrial piping
ASME B31.1Power piping
ASME B31.3Process piping
PED 2014/68/EUThe Pressure Equipment Directive, which governs equipment placed on the European market. We design to EN 14917, which is the harmonised standard behind it; where a project needs CE marking, the conformity assessment route has to be agreed before we quote

Tell us at enquiry which code the project runs under. It rarely changes the physics but it frequently changes the acceptance criteria and always changes the documentation.

Management system certification

Essem Works holds three certifications, issued by TÜV Rheinland. Their scopes are held with TÜV Rheinland, and the certificate numbers are below.

StandardCertificate numberIssued by
ISO 9001:2015 — Quality management01 100 2437759TÜV Rheinland
ISO 14001:2015 — Environmental management01 104 2537285TÜV Rheinland
ISO 45001:2018 — Occupational health & safety01 213 2537285TÜV Rheinland

Each certificate carries its own scope statement, printed on the certificate itself. Certificate copies travel with a pre-qualification pack; ask at enquiry and they come with the quotation.

Material and welding documentation

DocumentWhat it is
EN 10204 2.2Test report — non-specific test results issued by the manufacturer
EN 10204 3.1Inspection certificate — specific test results, validated by the manufacturer's authorised inspection representative
EN 10204 3.2Inspection certificate validated additionally by an independent inspector or the customer's representative
Welder qualificationWelders and procedures qualified for the pressure-retaining welds we make
PMIPositive material identification on the finished assembly, where required

Tell us about the job. We will work out what it needs.

Send the medium, pressure, temperature, movement and end connections — or just describe the problem. You get back a specified assembly and a drawing, and a price once the specification is settled.
