Hose types, by the job they do

Thirty-nine duties, each written up the same way: what the service does to a hose, what we would fit, what we would not, and what we need to know before we can say either.

Every hose on this site is the same few constructions — corrugated, braided, interlock, PTFE-lined. What changes from one job to the next is the duty, and the duty is what decides the grade, the ends, the length and whether the assembly survives its first year. These pages start from the service rather than the catalogue. Each one says what the duty does to a hose, what we would fit for it, what we would not fit and why, and what we need from you before anyone can size it honestly.

A note on the names. We do not trademark our hoses. A “burner fuel hose” and a “steam hose” may leave the works built from the same corrugated stock — what makes them different is the grade, the end fittings, the derating they were sized on and the tests they were given. Naming them for the job they do is how our customers ask for them, so it is how we list them. It is not a claim that each is a separate product.

Fuel and combustion

Hoses that carry a fuel to a burner, an engine or a tank. Almost none of them fail on pressure — they fail on heat at the fitting and movement at the burner.

Heat and steam

Duties where temperature, not pressure, sets the rating. Every one of these has to be specified on the derated figure rather than the catalogue figure.

Chemical and process

Here the medium decides everything and the mechanism is usually pitting or stress corrosion cracking rather than pressure. Several of these are PTFE-lined, not bare stainless.

Cryogenic and industrial gas

Very cold or very clean. Contraction, cleanliness and leak tightness set these, and the pressure rating is rarely the constraint.

Hygienic and high purity

Judged on drainability, surface finish and documentation rather than on pressure. What cannot be cleaned or proved does not belong on these lines.

Plant utility and machinery

The everyday duties that make up most of a plant’s hose population. They are simple, which is exactly why they get sized carelessly and fail early.

Hot, abrasive and bulk

Interlock territory. Not pressure-tight, never was, and chosen for the fact that it survives heat and grit that would destroy a corrugated hose.

Transfer and loading

Hoses that are connected, disconnected and dragged. Handling, static and end-fitting security matter more here than anything on the pressure table.
